The Program...

Nutrition For a Healthful Life is a faith-based, community-level intervention program designed to improve nutrition to reduce the risk or progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and hypertension among Black adults in Baltimore, MD. The prevalence of chronic illnesses such as T2D and hypertension is high among Black adults. Particularly in Baltimore, prevalence is highest among Black residents at approximately 14.1%, notably above the national average of 11.3% among all ethnicities in the United States (MD BRFSS, 2022). The Nutrition For a Healthful Life program includes a robust education component as well as a viable way to address food insecurity while helping to decrease disease risk and improve the overall health status of participants who experience one or both chronic issues.
